A few at a time… We’re kicking out a few pairs at a time onto new pastures. Sometimes we will choose the older calves… sometimes the ones in certain pastures… some we will brand now, others we will wait before branding them.
It’s confusing sometimes, even to us.
I thought we were working in a different place, but when I drove up with the three young girls in tow… no one was there. Thankfully, I could get one bar of cell service… so I texted and found out I was a couple of miles away in the wrong spot. <insert eye roll here>
Then I wasn’t sure what they were doing when I got there… looked like they were searching for specific pairs… so I just played it safe, and kept the cows from leaving through the water gap. I was mostly out of sight… once I figured it had gotten pretty quiet on the other side of the hill, I walked out and found they’d left with a bunch and Daniel and Johnny were just holding the herd…
This old cow had her calf stashed on the side of the Big Red Rock… not a typical hiding spot!
Well, the girls and I left for home. Since no one told us to do anything… and, granted, we were just in my Jeep, we’d just go do what we wanted to!
A little crafting, some cooking, and snacks put everyone right with the world… and we will continue this tomorrow!

Hide and Seek – bovine style!
hahaha!
I wonder if the cow “hears a different drummer…” In any event, she couldn’t have picked a more beautiful hiding place for her baby!! (Although, please watch your step, calf, getting down from there!) Thanks for another breathtaking photo (which would also make a neatissimo puzzle…).
