The calves are out!
Put that on the list of top ten things ranchers don’t ever want to hear.
I had it easy, watching Quinlan and Reagan, driving the side by side (admittedly through some rough country), staying THERE to prevent calves from going OVER THERE. Hauling drinks and snacks and running back to meet the school bus, and missing it by a few minutes (thank goodness for nice neighbors). Stopping finally at 5:30 to cook a halfway decent meal for the rest of the crew who absolutely worked their tails off today.
The corral is worse for wear…
Most of the calves are accounted for… but tomorrow will be spent searching for the others.
Although it was a horrible, ugly, messy day of sweat and hard work for people and horses in rough country, I thank God there’s still something in me that stops for a minute or two and counts my blessings for living in glorious country like this.
Tap on this photo to enlarge it, then look above the white outcrop in the lower left hand corner. That’s Daniel and Tess on horseback. It’s awfully big country out here…
Find me here!
Good advise for all of us to take a minute to appreciate the beauty around us…..but yes yours is gorgeous.
That looks like lots of space for those calves to get lost in. Could it have been elk that broke the fence? Good luck finding the rest.
How do you get anything done? I think I’d just be looking at the scenery all the time. But then the focus is different.
Oh, no, the calves did that damage. Amazing the power of a stampede!
So sorry the calves got out.
And that is a gorgeous photo!
We need to take a picnic up there. It’s magnificent.
And Beautiful country! How did the calves manage to escape?
They spooked, stampeded, and went through the corral fence. Silly things.
Wow that is Big country and how majestic in all its ruggedness!
Hope you find the rest of the calves!
