Looking Again

Posted on October 2, 2021October 2, 2021

Seems like we’re constantly looking for horses… and Brandon is trying out a new mare…

She seems gentle… but is fairly ignorant of the “real life” we live. Many horses are stabled and corralled and rode only in arenas. Horses here must cross ditches, creeks, logs, and mud puddles. They must know how to walk through sagebrush (yes, that can be tricky), around trees, and down rimrock ledges. Don’t forget avoiding badger and prairie dog holes!

She seems willing, and it’s nothing that miles of riding won’t fix. We’ll see if she can pass a vet check, and perhaps she might join the string!

We just got a little mare out of SD. for me and the kids. They also had a four y o 15 hand gelding that was pretty amazing! He was too much horse for our needs, but was crazy amazing! give me a call if you would like more info on him

She looks like a horse I used to have. Maybe a little more Thoroughbred.
I would imagine most of your horse are Quarter horses?

Most of them are quarter horses, but you’re right, she’s Thoroughbred.

Do you need horses already trained to work around cattle ? Used to
roping calves ? Trained to “cut” a cow out of the herd ?

It’s nice for them to know these things, but horses are extremely expensive these days if they know all that. I don’t want to train horses, but the boys have that interest.
