Inky

Posted on October 30, 2021October 30, 2021

I probably shouldn’t have. I’ve talked myself out of it for over a year. But I finally gave in.

I bought myself some more craft supplies! Like I need more crafts to do…

Alcohol ink.

You can use them many different ways… but since I have some plain white dollar store mugs, plates and teapots around… I grabbed one.

Alcohol ink on ceramic could be painted, I suppose, but I grabbed colors from my “Wyoming palette” and dripped them on. They run and bleed and a few drops of a special solution and the colors mix and blend.

A very loose interpretation of Wyoming scenery appears and I’m in love! I take a brush and give it a bit of grass stems in the foreground. It was pretty quick and easy. I’ve tried it on clear wine glasses but I’m not the biggest fan. I’ve tried it on clear glass ornaments. Again, not happy with the results.

I still have some supplies to arrive including the metallic inks which I think will help with the wine glasses and ornaments. If I like them, I’ll share.

I have yet to try the inks on paper or metal but it’s on my list!

The best thing is, if you don’t like something, a bit of rubbing alcohol and a wipe or two and you can start over with a clean slate! I’ll be pawing through old supplies just to find something to ink now!

What do you think?

That’s a beautiful Wyoming palette, and I love the finishing touch of the vertical grasses. Well done, Carol.

One question, of course. You can use rubbing alcohol to erase and start over, but can you “fix” it when you like the results? Otherwise, what keeps it from smearing, running, or getting all over someone’s hands?
    I like your results.

Acrylic coating seals it. I’ll do a video one of these days.

Sure wish you’d open your on-line shop again and sell your spoons and these mugs.
I’d love to give these kinds of Wyoming gifts to friends and family!
