Down Pat

Posted on July 1, 2022July 1, 2022

Sunrise found us horseback, gathering heifers to bring them home.

They crossed the creek on the second attempt, and soon we were up the hill, through the gate, and on the highway, walking the three miles home.

Three cowkids were along to help.

Having them mounted on horses instead of ornery ponies has made a world of difference in the amount of work they’re able to do. It’s great to see them succeeding at their jobs. Of course, they’re just having fun and the processes of cattle work are sinking into fertile soil on occasion! In the next few years, it will become second nature, and they’ll have this cowboying down pat!

What a fun way to grow up. Makes me want to be a child again and be your grandchild.

    What a great family!!
Next time you do a Q and A, maybe you could talk about how you choose
a certain horse for each cowkid etc. and how long it takes you all to get saddled up!

I’ll bet the job is more fun for them on horseback as well. The whole process continues to amaze me. Thanks, Carol.

Best way to train new cowboys-working on the job. Great photos.
