I didn’t think we’d go. The clouds lowered themselves in a foggy curtsey over the mountaintops. Soft billowing waves of fog drifted down, then up, and down again. I’ve ridden in the clouds… it’s a game of peekaboo with the cows. Sometimes it’s not the most enjoyable of days. The word was given. Horses saddled. Horse trailer loaded. We’re off up the damp road since we actually received RAIN yesterday.
The layer of fog was thin and it continued to dissipate as we rode.
In this pasture we ride down from the top, circle behind any cattle in the bottom, and bring them back up. We follow different routes, kicking cattle in the basic direction we want them to go. They know it’s time to move further up the mountain, and many line out and start the climb before we’ve really asked them to!
The way is steep and horribly rocky and through a patch of timber on top.
Once on top, we trail through one of my favorite spots… REALLY ROCKY with scattered pines… something about the sounds of hooves on rock is appealing.
Each little divot is filled with rainwater.
Two miles later, paired and sent on their way, our job is complete. It turned out to be a pleasant day, 70*, no wind, and no allergies! No fog interference.
Find me here!
Enjoyed my ride with you all from my armchair.
Love the photos Carol! Thanks so much I was transported to the west for a few minutes!
I have not been receiving the posts in my email anymore?
Any thoughts or anyone else having that issue?
I may have that fixed. Let me know!
Hurrah!! Sometimes things just work out.
Yay, some rain, no allergies, smart cows, favorite trails, and a “curtsy of fog”. This was a very nice “trip” for me. Thanks always.
Amazing day. Not sure how you keep up with all that you do!
