Chinks are short chaps. Usually, they just cover the top half of your leg, though they can be almost as long as full length chaps. Full length chaps are less popular around here, though I still have my old pair.
As we were riding the other day, we made a comment that Reagan needed a pair of chinks. She’s pretty stinking cute on that pony and to have her fully decked out just seems natural.
When Brandon was little, I made him chaps and a vest from some Naugahyde. I remember making them full length and he stepped on the fringe and ripped many of them off. Quinlan wore the vest back when it fit him. I made a vest for Matthew using Brandon’s as a pattern. It’s been so long, I can’t quite remember how I made them, but I plunged onward and began some chinks for little Reagan.
Reagan is tiny. From her waist to below her kneecap is 12”. I feel like I’m almost working on doll clothes. They’re so dinky! They aren’t complete… and I need to convince my sewing machine to sew through three layers, but a couple more hours, and I’ll have her model them.

And how do you pronounce chinky?
Beautiful. I would have loved, loved these as a present!
Another wonderful, creative project! It will be fun to see her in her home-made chinks!
