Today I was going to watch the grandkids while everyone else was going to gather the cows from the badlands. Jaxon was a bit under the weather, his mom keeping all of her kids home, so I ended up with only Lorelei. Quinlan had decided to cowboy.
Lorelei and I began to tackle an old kit tying quilt squares together. We’d tried this last year with mixed results. We finished four rows and she seems to be a professional at tying square knots now.
I kept in touch with the cowboys. The morning had turned from sunny to cloudy and breezy and fairly miserable.
The BLM sets how long we can keep our cattle out there, and today was the deadline. There’s actually still feed out there, but all the ranchers who lease the ground were there riding and taking their cows home.
After a full day’s riding, they brought the girls in… and it began to rain! It may be extra slick tomorrow as they make a final sweep to see if they missed any.

Do your neighbors use herding/cattle dogs, too?
Oh, yes, but there’s an assortment of pet type dogs too.
