Trade Show Fun

Posted on February 5, 2023

We made a flying trip to Rapid City, South Dakota to peruse the aisles of the Black Hills Stock Show. Vendors of all kinds attend and it’s a good time to see the new machinery, ideas, programs, and western lifestyle items. Need boots, saddles, horse trailers, jewelry, tractors, or side by side? Here’s your chance.

Vernon visited with the guy from Peer Built, a fence company that we purchased lots of supplies from last year. We will be buying more, so they held quite the convo.

Then the guys with the big brush eating machines over at Diamond Mowers… I’d love one of those machines! Think weed eater for sagebrush and juniper trees….

I get really fascinated by the solar powered eartags for cattle with GPS locators. Those days of looking for strays? Forget it… You’d know where all your cattle were, if they were walking slower (possibly ill), running for extended periods (predators?), and which bull they were breeding to (improve your genetics). While it’s too expensive at this point, it’s always interesting to see where this is heading. Check out 701x.com.

We went to a horsemanship clinic… though my favorite old cowboy on YouTube still wins out in my book. Go watch Pat Puckett on YouTube if you’re interested in horses.

Finally I got to meet one of my ag blogger/entrepreneur/speaker internet “friends”/champions in person! Amanda Radke, who first worked at Beef Magazine, (back when I won that photography contest and won a custom cowboy hat), now does a radio show with Trent Loos (a popular speaker and who I shared an event with at WESTI Ag Days years ago). She also sells ag and ranching themed tshirts and clothing and writes children’s books about ranching. It was cool to spend five minutes talking with her and finally meeting face to face. Did I take a pic? No. Obviously, I’ll never win the social media game…. Trent was wandering around, but I never ran into him.

We walked and walked and walked through the warren of hallways and showrooms and livestock sections and ice rink and indoor rodeo and back to the motel… Good times for ranchers and ag people and rodeo fans…
