Hitchin’ a Ride

Posted on May 6, 2023

Morning sun found the turkey vultures warming in the light…

And us gathering the last few cows from the other side of the creek. They were a mix of Brandon’s, cows that hadn’t calved yet, cows with newborns, and cows that had lost their babies. We’d sort them at the corral.

Easy enough usually, but the creek was rising and these are our youngest calves.

Most handled it well… but then there are the reluctant ones.

C’mon, babies!

The water is COLD and it’s fast.

C’mon, babies!

There was one that simply refused… so, Megan held on to the wet little critter and they got a ride!

Better than one river crossing that I witnessed. At least there are no crocodiles!

I’m with that little one. Not keen on cold fast flowing water!!!! Well done Megan.

Probably the smartest calf of the bunch for refusing that crossing and convincing a pretty girl to give him a lift! 🙂

The TLC from Megan made for one happy calf, and a nice story.
