Peony Prize

Posted on June 30, 2023

Ack, I’m getting so far behind in keeping you current on happenings, but I can’t leave this entry out. I really enjoy making jelly and for a few years I’ve been wanting to try dandelion jelly and peony jelly. Well, I missed the dandelion season… but when Victoria was here last time and we had canceled our planned ride because it was so muddy… I decided that day was going to be Peony Jelly Day.

I almost waited too long, a few blossoms were starting to lose petals.

A quick rinse and pull the petals off…

Boil water and pour over the petals, soak at least 10 minutes. Strain.

This foam needs skimmed off with a metal spoon… but then look at it! It is one of the prettiest jellies I’ve ever made!

I may even enter it in the county fair and win a prize!

What a beautiful concept! The Peony Prize sounds like such a lovely way to celebrate creativity and accomplishment. I’d love to know more about its origins—what inspired the name, and what kind of achievements does it aim to recognize? chinesefoodmenuu.com

We have peonies in our garden and I’ve never heard of peony jelly. Looks amazing so might have to try it next summer. What I’d really like is for the blossoms to last longer when I pick them to put in a vase in the house.

I hit the dandelion jackpot at Shell Creek campground and just made a batch of yummy dandelion jelly. This is the third time, and we love it.
Peony jelly may be next! Thank you for the recipe!

I had no idea you could make jelly out of peonies. What does it taste like?

Never heard of Peony jelly. They are one of my favorite flowers…
Does the jelly have the fragrance?

How interesting. I had no idea jelly could be made from a flower.
