Time to help the guys…
Our heifers have been around my house, eating in the fields… but it’s time to sort them. Brandon has the paperwork and their lifetime stats. Birthweight. Wean weight. Average Daily Gain. Due dates. Genetics. Now it’s time to gather them up and sort them. Will they stay or will they be sold? Yay or nay?

Into the corral and we begin.
Brandon checks his spreadsheet.

I open the gate for those we will sell. Those we keep, walk past Brandon. Daniel is up the alley, sorting them one by one and calling out their tag numbers. On occasion, because they’ve lost their tag or there’s too much hair hanging over it that we can’t read it, means we load her in the gate chute so we can uncover her number.

There’s more than a few that we sell that look like amazing heifers to me… and they are… it’s just that we have such a tight schedule for calving that if they are going to calve in May, we just can’t keep them. It’s a bummer but if there’s someone interested, they will be going up for sale soon.

Are they all preg? Is that how you know who will calve in May?
Looks like a good group!
