Stories by James Greet:
Bubbles was a good mother, like most felines. One summer, she had her kittens up in the haymow. It didn’t take us kids long to find them. She decided that her babies were too young to be handled by curious kids, she must do something.
Bubbles moved them, one at a time, a little over two miles to the neighbor’s barnyard. Of course they fed Bubbles, for they recognized her. I think there were four in the litter. That would add up to sixteen miles of travel in one night. When the kittens were big enough, in about three weeks, she brought them home and all was well. That was being a real mother with a full measure of compassion.
It wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t include the story of Dad’s cat that he had when he and Uncle Fred were batching on the ranch.
There were two pasture gates about a mile apart and a mile from the house. One on the north side and one on the east side. Dad would leave on horseback out either gate, just depending on the need. Then, in the evening, he might return by either gate. His cat would always be waiting for him at the right gate. Dad never knew how the cat could tell which gate would be the right one.

What a storyteller James was. I am certain he would be happy knowing his stories have a new audience in 2024. Love the photo!
Great story! We’ll probably never know the full extent of amazing animal instincts and communication.
Those cats were dedicated! And That “Bubbles” what a Momma!
