While I watched Vernon continue to rejuvenate the Double Crossing, I wandered a bit. The day was warm with the snow melting away. I tossed my jacket layer onto the side by side as I had overdressed. A few steps further and I noticed tracks. They had melted and were fairly indistinguishable. All I had to go on was approximate size and step length. And this.
The steps, about the same distance apart as Bravo’s, maybe slightly farther apart, had gone along the creek bank… then turned and went down. The first few steps are down five feet and not visible in my picture. Then another leap of four to five feet to the tracks you see to the right of my shadow.
You can see how his feet then came together to launch him to that tussock of grass in the middle of the creek. A jump off of it, and continuing along the ice and snow until he went up the steep bank on the other side.
My guess? I’d say either a young lion or a bobcat traveled through here a day or two ago. I don’t know many animals that would make jumps like that except for a cat. It also would have had to have been after our snowstorm with a day or two of melting.
I like trying to read what the snow is trying to tell… even if I’m wrong, my imagination gets some exercise!

Very cool…have never seen a “ tuft” of grass like that.
What an interesting picture!
