More babies!
We even had our first set of twins in a few years! I haven’t seen them yet, but… yay!
Trying to make our life “easier”… we set up a pen in the field between the pastures. Mommas and babies sometimes have troubles keeping track of one another until a day or two have passed. The thought was that if we alternate where the newborns go, there wouldn’t be a dozen new babies wandering around every day looking for mom and being confused on top of other newborns from the day before. The ones in the pasture already could have things figured out… so it’d be a dozen new babies every *other* day… maybe it will help?

Heifers are loaded into the horse trailer in the front two compartments…

The babies get the back compartment to themselves for the short distance ride. Everyone is unloaded…and given a brief period to sniff around and find each other.

While I snickered at the new mom oblivious to the extra little thief, Vernon rolled his eyes. Calves need to stick to their own moms, having a “stepmother” might end up having the calf lost or abandoned by its real mom. He quickly moved the calf away and towards the right mom.
Then, paired correctly, they were let out of the pen.

We will see if this is easier than running around checking to see if things are paired correctly in one place… maybe it’ll just be running around in two places! We shall see!

We shall see!!
Congrats for the new twins.
