We were planning to brand on Friday, but the weather service talked of rain and cold weather starting Friday and going for a week. We can brand when it’s cold, but we can’t brand when the calves are wet! Plans were suddenly changed and we branded Wednesday. Unlike the first branding, I didn’t take any breaks so I could take photos… so there aren’t near as many. But enjoy some of the ones I did take.
All the cowboys are holding the herd so cows can be sorted off and calves don’t run back.
Megan preps the eartags and vaccines.
The fire is built and the irons are placed in the cedar fire to heat, which gives people a while to visit before the work begins.
Everyone gets a job, even the little girls who enjoy marking the calves after they’ve received their vaccines. Sometimes, on rare occasions, other things may get marked as well…
Ropers, wrestlers, taggers, vaccinators, and branders fall into rhythm.
Two uncles help two nephews with a calf trying to escape.
Before you know it… work is done.

Great photos, especially the last one.
The last picture is priceless!
I bet everyone was “doggone” tired after all this work…kids, too!
