The summer reading program is in full swing at the Ten Sleep Library and I do program one day a week. The other two part time librarians do one day each, as well, so we have a three day a week program. The theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” One girl is doing Tall Tales as her theme, the other is creating hero/monster costumes and scenery for a play. Me? As some of you have guessed, I’m recycling my Girl Scout training into a camping/survivor theme.
I cut out 15 cardboard vintage trailers to paint, all about 3’x4’. (Unfortunately, I only had five kids, so if ten adults would like to come paint a vintage trailer lawn ornament, let me know). Of course I needed an example, so…

Note my “Happy Campers Welcome” sign made in the style of National Forest signs… like this…

Well, that needs something! How about a Sasquatch photo op?

Then I went a little nuts with the park signs…

This week’s program will be “Explorer”, where we will focus on compass directions, basic maps, and journal/map drawing skills (with a Lewis and Clark influence). I’d love to be at the level of geocaching and orienteering, but I have too young of kids for that!
Outdoor survival books are pretty popular around here…
I should just run a camp before I forget all my camping skills I’ve learned through a lifetime of Girl Scouting! Any adults interested? Haha!

What great skills you have Carol. So good you can pass these on.
You continue to inspire and amaze me with all that you share and do!
Very creative, one-of-a-kind signs that you made! Hope they can be kept for another year, or sent to a school library! They are bound to
attract readers along with the special programs.
Love it!
Great! Love the photo-op!!
