Great Smiles

Posted on June 25, 2024

Even though we started early, it seemed like the temperature grew hot fast… of course, as I stand by the branding barrel most of the time… I may have a warped perspective!

With only 100 calves to brand, it shouldn’t take too long. These are our youngest calves, those we deemed too young to be branded in the first rounds. So we turned them out with their mommas for a month, and now bring them in as we will be taking them to the higher, cooler mountain soon. As our wrestling teams can testify, they’ve grown up quite fast!

Our dry farm field had also managed to grow… hiding the calf on the ground! You had to pick your feet up as you walked, the plants creating a tripping hazard.

The boys were disappointed to not have small calves to wrestle, but wandered from job to job, filling in as barrel fire manager to vaccine giver to ear tagger to runner.

Even the big guys struggled a bit with big calves and tall grass!

Nevertheless, we got the job done… with great smiles…

The boys didn’t look too disappointed at having to do vaccination guns and whatnot. I loved that your perspective on the heat may have been warped by standing near the branding barrels! Made me warm just looking at the picture.
