Oh, Sheep Show!

Posted on July 24, 2024

It was Jaxon and Lacee’s turn to shine in the Washakie County Fair Sheep Show. Again, I can’t tell you much about showing sheep… constant eye contact with the judge, always be on the opposite side of the sheep as the judge, lift the sheep’s head up and back to brace the back muscles so the judge can feel them… hope your baby lamb has grown up to be what the judge likes!

Lots of preparation… while the sheep has been sheared, the legs are left fluffy, and need to be fluffed up even more.

It never hurts to watch and learn from the more experienced kids.

The Pee Wee show was entered by Reagan, who showed off Lacee’s sheep. Everyone gets a ribbon, but let me tell you, Reagan took it seriously.

The day was a scorcher, reaching 102*, and kids’ faces were red and sheep were panting and longing for shade.

Jaxon received 4th in Intermediate Showmanship and Lacee was 5th in Junior Showmanship. I thought it was the other way around, but that what the results page told me… Then it was Lacee 2nd and Jaxon 3rd in black faced market lamb…

Then came Buddy. Buddy is big.

Buddy was over it before it started.

But Lacee held on… and he never escaped. (While you can use a halter, judges prefer you lead them just by their jaw.). There were a fair amount of escapees today.

Buddy came through!

Great job for kids that haven’t ever done it before!

Those lambs look as polished as a show dog at Westminster. Beautiful sheep. If they could only stay that pristine all the time.

Thanks for all these interesting pictures and your comments of course.
I think this is the first time we’ve read about the kiddos being involved with both the pig show and lamb show. Great job all around.
