Company left this morning and I spent time catching up on my laundry. Vernon was off rolling up an old fence line. After lunch, he returned. He had blown a hose on the machine and had switched his focus to getting the pump replaced down in Otter Creek Canyon. It’s one of my favorite drives, so I grabbed my fishing pole and rode along.
Unfortunately, the road has not been maintained this year. It was a mess. Tall grass. Rocks in the road. Downed trees. Many, many creek crossings washed out.
The high water has tossed many a log and limb into our way.
Vernon got his workout. We’re replacing the pump that waters cows on the top edge of the canyon. If we don’t make it down this road to the pump house, then the heavy pump would have to be brought in on foot and that would be tough.
We hit rocks, cut trees, built up crossings, and were constantly grateful for the tough skid plate on the bottom of the Defender.
This is not a beaver dam, it’s just debris left from the spring high water.
We made it, finally, and replaced the pump.
The video I took is impressive. Not many people would have made it down to the pump house. Vernon is an exceptional driver. I had many a death grip on the ride. I think it’s definitely worth a sponsorship from Can-Am!

This picture is SO different from the last one! So much debris to clear out.
But it is such a beautiful spot as you say. Wonder if Otters enjoyed it back in the day!?
Did you catch anything? The scenery wis always worth the trip, death grip and all!
Can’t wait to see the video.
Those “death grip” sections — I probably would have made Craig let me out to walk! Beautiful creek at the bottom. Did you get there with enough time to do some fishing?
What an adventure! Looks wild and beautiful!
