A friend gave us this beautiful 18” Round Oak wood stove a few years ago. It’s been sitting in the corner of a shed until a week ago. It now has a job.
As best I can figure, it’s a 1914 model, though its patent date is 1912. Definitely dusty, so I took a rag and water to it.
It was disgusting. After hours of kneeling and washing all those cracks and crevices, my hands were pretty disgusting too! I thought I was just dealing with dust, but it turns out, black paint/polish/soot came off too.
But look at that!
That was an improvement! That was four or five hours of work.
Then all day today…
The finial it came with is too small, so my old coffee pot handles those duties. If I took a toothbrush to get all those details polished I’d be much happier. That and maybe some silver model paint to make the lettering stand out. A day and a half of work did shine up the old gal, though!

A real treasure from the past! Enjoy it and the remembrance of your many days’ of hard work to bring back it’s unique beauty.
Wow! As always I admire your perseverance and determination. I wonder if polishing the stove was a job for a youngster in days gone by.
What was the original finial?
It was a brass colored globe with decorative handles.
Good job and very nifty heat shield also!
Gorgeous!
I think it is wonderful! So much work! Do not give up!
