In old photos, I’m drawn to the dogs that have joined their humans, the horses that people rode, and the clothing or tack that appears. This week, here are three horse photos that appealed to me.
This first photo is Ernest Greet, 1911(?). What a huge horse!
Then there is three of the Greet brothers together. Fred, Ernest, and Will.
Straight on photos of horses can be deceiving, making heads look huge… I’ll blame positioning in this photo, but in this next photo… not much can help the looks of this horse.
Grandma Pyle is on a slightly bad confirmation style horse! I also know some ugly horses have great personalities and I’ll give points for that!
What do you notice about these horses from yesteryear?
(Photos shown with increased contrast than the originals)
Find me here!
These horses definitely have more bone than the modern horses have. Most likely they kept sound under heavy use.
Uncle Ernest’s big horse is typical of draft horses in that era.
The horse with Uncle Ernest must have some cross breed of draft horse.
Grandma Pyles horse looks overdue for a hoof trimming.
It may have had laminitis?
Just the stance it has….
Thanks for sharing these old photos so interesting!
