Find a dead branch. It’s beautiful.

I’d say you are traveling through one of Southern California’s Deserts!

Be careful! Those spines look nasty.
Can’t wait to learn where you are.

Cane Cholla suggests you could be anywhere from Oklahoma or West Texas to Arizona.
I can tell you from personal experience that all Cholla’s are a nasty plant if one is not very, very careful around it… Fruit is edible, cooked or not, if you can find some red, ripe ones (September-ish mostly) but BE CAREFUL when picking; use tools.

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
