Branding

Posted on April 22, 2025April 22, 2025

It was a big day. While we’d planned this branding for Good Friday, a few inches of snow and cold canceled it. Today’s forecast was sketchy, with rain showers predicted but we thought we’d try to see if we could manage anyway.

Vernon has been my number one helper since everything I do sends me into a hacking coughing fit. He’s cooked (!) and loaded and we finally arrived just as the cowboys finished sorting calves from cows.

254 photos and a couple of videos later… many monster cookies… some drinks… we forged clear through lunch break to beat the weather. With 30 calves to go, the weather finally broke and we had cold wind and little hail diamonds to deal with. With 10 left, the storm was over.

Lunch was at four o’clock.

Thanks to the best crew we are lucky to have as neighbors!

I’ll sort more photos in the next few days…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
