Up Up

Posted on July 1, 2025July 1, 2025

We continued the trail to the Slope Pasture, me in the sxs with Reagan, Vernon also following bringing pickup and horse trailer. We’d catch up to the herd… then fall behind as we rolled up old barbed wire… a big danger for horses. Someday, as we keep going up this trail, all of it will be picked up and horses and people will be safe. There might be a cool wildflower or Vernon might just tease Reagan for a bit or I’d pour out some drinking water for the working dogs…. Anyway, we’d follow along as we wanted.

Quinlan and Jaxon acting as old hands…

The girls, too, gaining good experience.

While the lead cows step out right along, the wad at the back takes special watching as each new incline arrives. It’s a good place for them to stop or quit the country…

Finally, we’ve made it to our destination… but no lunch until everything is paired up! The cows know the routine. That part accomplished, everyone waters their horse and lets them graze. After climbing up and up into the mountains, everyone is ready for lunch!

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
