I spent most of the day cleaning on my studio. We have hunters coming next week, and it was a disorganized mess! I thought it might take a couple of hours, but I finally quit at 3 for lunch and switched to mowing grass. I have a few boxes to find a place for, windows and sheets to wash, and vacuuming to do, but then I will declare it clean! Of course, clean in a log cabin means there’s probably still cobwebs I missed and dust. That’s one of the reasons I never got so far as to offer it as an air-b-n-b. The location is great, but with no running water, facilities, and cobwebs on the logs, I didn’t figure anyone would want to rent it! But it is a great studio…
Anyway, as I cleaned, I came across the originals of one of my dad’s oil well location plans. I have made copies and framed them. They hang in my studio. While my dad was a geological draftsman, his hand lettering was art.

Back when lettering was done by hand and fonts were suggestions, my father could draw up a location in minutes. Since this was a rough outline, and his boss was also his friend, my dad’s humor could come shining through.

Did my dad know how to spell preliminary? Yes. Personnel? Yup. But he might just make a mistake just to see if anyone would catch them.
Then I had to laugh… lately I’ve been drawing up some “plans” for our new football field. While the field is great, the small bleachers behind a chain link fence has the crowd disgruntled. Yes, different bleachers are on their way in the spring, so I hear, but I like drawing up plans (not to scale)! So I asked around, got some ideas, and drew up my “dream” football field. The plans remind me of Daddy’s “Pleminary Site Plans”.

It’s just an idea, but I guess drawing up Pleminary Plans is in my blood. My lettering falls far short of my dad’s, but for those local folk who might be interested, here’s the key to the plans.

The first step would be getting rid of the chain link fence! Any other locals want to add to my design?
