We did it! Today, Victoria and I completed our virtual walk of our ancestors’ Trail of Tears Walk! Whoop, whoop! Or Yakoke!

We both learned some history along the way… but now I have more questions! I knew there were multiple Trails in different years, but I’d like to figure out, if possible, which removal my ancestors were on. One way to do that may be the certificate of commutation individuals received when they arrived in Oklahoma. Their name and little visual description would be on the certificate for $10.00 they were awarded for “volunteering” for their removal.

463 miles without cold, hunger, or personal travail is not a fair “recreation”, but it’s not meant to be. It’s a walk of honor. It’s all about respecting what our ancestors went through so we could enjoy our many blessings we have today. The Choctaw Nation is strong. Chief Batton recorded a congratulatory speech for us.

Thanks, Victoria, for being a great walking partner and dropping us immediately into Provence! It definitely works to keep me motivated. Yakoke!

Congratulations!!!
