Lost Power

Posted on March 6, 2026March 6, 2026

It was quite the topic of conversation today for most people out this way.
“Did you lose power? Wasn’t it weird?”

While losing power isn’t unusual, it’s normally a few flickers and then blackness. Twenty or thirty minutes and it’s back. No biggee. Our power company is great, but things happen.

Last night, it began flickering, almost in waves or surges. Darkness. Flickers. Darkness. Full bright, half, full, half, dim, dark, bright, dim, half, dark. It continued for minutes. We started unplugging things. Dim, dark, bright, half, dim. Vernon finally went and cut the power for the entire house.
The darkness in the country with no power is absolute.
Vernon went to bed.

I knew it’d be back, and it was early, so I turned on an audiobook, leaned back and woke up an hour and a half later! I hate when that happens! I had to find where I left off to restart my audiobook this morning.
It turns out a power pole was sparking. While it was snowing, that probably wasn’t the cause. Everyone was happy to see the little bit of snow and rain. Power was restored about 1 am, and everyone has a story to compare!

It’s a good reminder to be prepared… check those batteries, know where your lamps or candles are, and don’t fall asleep with your audiobook playing!
