Vernon and I ran up the mountain to retrieve some metal braces for building fence. We knew there were some at Bayer Creek, so off in the sxs we went.
Bayer Creek has always been known for its multiple springs that cut across the hillside. I’ve often said we could use them to irrigate the hillside. I don’t know how many there are, maybe nine or ten? Well, in this drought year, we crossed only three springs. Three. Three that weren’t flowing that great. I shook my head. While the grass currently looks very good, it’s very fair to say, it doesn’t resemble a normal year at all.

I just can’t convey how worrisome this looks. My idea to irrigate the hillside to grow grass won’t work at all with no water! Fingers crossed we get the rain and snow they predict.
While we were loading the braces, three elk came running across the valley. I don’t think they knew we were there, as two seemed shocked to see us.

Thet didn’t stay there but for a split second, spinning away and gathering up a couple of more elk I hadn’t seen.

Off they ran. We were loaded and tied in place so we left them to enjoy their green seclusion.
