Scrape By

Posted on October 12, 2026October 12, 2026

Another overcast day with a few sprinkles. The mountain was socked in and muddy and we had to cancel our scheduled preg test day. That gave me time to help L. scrape the floor of the bunkhouse.

Lots of stuck tar paper and little tiny nails they’d used to nail down some peeling tiles. Sometimes five in one spot! It wasn’t fun and my hands and shoulders feel it. You know that fancy “hand scraped” flooring some people have? I can relate!

We’ll clean it a bit more and then I think I have a gallon of floor paint in my basement… grey, maybe? I’ve also bought a few outlets and light switches to redo the wiring… I’m researching whitewash and paneling and other ideas… stay tuned.

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
