Wean Work

Posted on September 23, 2025September 23, 2025

The day started with low clouds… and I mean LOW…

But as the morning progressed… the weather improved. And, hey, the cows were all still in!

They were quickly corralled and we began to sort. With it being slightly muddy and that treacherous cow poop everywhere… I stayed out of the way… for a while. This was the day last year when I messed up my knee.

Of course, I can’t help myself… I do have to get into the mix. But I picked my area carefully! Mommas were let out, calves sorted, 4H steers chosen.

I kept well out of the action! Heifer calves were weaned and brought home where their mournful cries will be heard the next few days. Steer calves will stay with mom just a wee bit longer. Tomorrow is the big preg check day… it’s never boring around here.
