Wooooo…. Came home from eating out for Valentine’s Day, sat down, watched a bit of the Olympics, and woke up at 11:30 and staggered off to bed. Totally forgot to blog last night. Sorry about that!
A few more details about our baby calves. Soon after they’re born, we provide them with a boost of antibodies to help prevent scours (or diarrhea). It’s a simple paste that you feed them. Then, hopefully on their second day of life, we take a sample from their ear for DNA testing. This is just for the little bunch not the big ranch herd.

Consider it a big ear piercing! Then their numbered eartag that matches their mother is inserted into the same hole.

We also like to know their birth weight… calves average 65-90 pounds. This one weighed 77. Daniel is reading the portable scale as the calf swings in a sling.

Within minutes, the calf is back with it’s concerned mother and Daniel can prepare for the next one.
