Dust Bowl

Posted on March 30, 2026March 30, 2026

Time to move cows that haven’t calved to new, fresh pasture. I haven’t been down here in quite a while and while Vernon had mentioned how dusty it was, I was shocked when I saw it.

I can’t hardly see Vernon ahead of me in his side by side. Look at the depth of that fine dust!

Mommas start to look for their babies, especially since Bravo was so excited , he just had to bark!

We should be driving through ice and mud, but it’s just dust.

It looks like it should be the end of August.

There they go… fairly well sorted, though the guys will come back and straighten everything up later. All I could think was Dust Bowl…

Then, Brandon has started irrigating (!) and Canada geese have decided that’s the place to be!

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
