Better This Time

Posted on May 29, 2026May 29, 2026

Ugh. Trips to town… I didn’t even hit all the stores I had planned. I only forgot two things. But after working at the library until 1:00, our summer hours have begun, it didn’t leave as much time as I needed, but more than I wanted! Both greenhouses were absent of tomato plants for my garden. I usually plant after Memorial Day and, honestly, we did have frost only four days ago…. But it had frosted in Worland and killed everyone’s tomato plants (they’re always warmer than us and their plants and trees at least two weeks ahead of us). Anyway, they had returned to the greenhouses and cleared them out, leaving me in a lurch. Happily, Victoria went to Casper and bought me some! Yippee!

I have planted the rest of my garden. I have mowed. I have sprayed weeds. I have trimmed. I now have plywood, so the outhouse is back on my to-do list. I made a strawberry rhubarb cobbler because it is the season…. I’ve worked on my eagle with help from my brother-in-law. There’s so many things on the list, but I took the time to sit and watch as Tuck experienced the outside for the very first time.

She’s still so tiny compared to the other hens. They pick on her like chickens do, so she’s far from being let loose with them. And then there’s Bravo.

Oh, he’d love to put a paw on her and lick her to death.

That old hen is acting broody again. If I give her some more eggs to hatch… do you think she’d adopt a three month old chick to go with her new hatchlings? Yeah, I doubt it too. I may try it though… Surely she can do better than 2/10 this time?
