Soaker

Posted on October 13, 2026October 13, 2026

Before this bout of dampish weather, I’d been trying to think of any way to get water out and about on the prairie. It’s dust out there. I’ve thought that perhaps if we have a water tank for the cows, I’d like to run the excess out and across the prairie. It usually just runs down the closest little draw… still watering as it goes down, but I’d like it to go *across*.

I bought a couple of soaker hoses and Daniel helped me hook it up to the well. We let it run for a few hours but unfortunately, we couldn’t just let it run. One, that would leave the well house door open to the zillion raccoons we seem to have. Two, this cold front was coming in and we didn’t want anything to freeze.

Sure it won’t make a big difference for much of an area, but it makes me feel like I’m trying to get something to grow through this drought!
