A Plea for Dana

Posted on July 2, 2009December 29, 2014
I was recently contacted by a woman in Moses Lake, Washington.
Her husband has been diagnosed with terminal multiple myeloma and they will no longer be able to run cattle or their ranch.
She is desperately seeking a new home for Dana.

Dana is out of Elsa… but the father is Dubya, both owned at the time by De Butcher in Oklahoma.  De is aware of the situation.
Sherry insists that Dana go to another cattle ranch… that’s the life Dana’s known and loved… and it would make the loss of Dana much easier to bear.
Dana is 3 years old, spayed, natural bobtail, and microchipped.
Here is a description:
“She is very intelligent, tries super hard to please, is loving, knows her farm’s boundries, is a good varmint dog, but is hard on cats.
Dana is an extremely loving dog that just wants to be with her people and work with them. She misses being with my husband and lays on the back step waiting for him to come out. We now kennel her because she has gotten in trouble with cats since she hasn’t been working and left alone so much. So, I would not recommend her around felines. We have chickens in a chicken pen and she has never tried to get in with them. She is allergic to eggs, cooked or raw. She has never chewed anything or done damage. One neighbor has a lot of peacocks and they like to come sit on our front porch and trucks. Dana does chase them off and pull out tail feathers, but I don’t mind as they are messy birds. We live on 300 acres adjoining thousands of acres of natural state land. Dana has never left our property to my knowledge. She knows the boundaries. She is death on rock chucks and ground squirrels. No skunks stay around here with her loose and we have had no more raccoon problems with her here.  She will chase coyotes, but will not go beyond our fences without backup.”
If you know of someone who might be interested in Dana, please contact me… and I will tell you more and put you in touch with Sherry if you are a likely candidate!
I’m still looking around here… I’ll see many people over the 4th holiday… let’s find Dana a good home!

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
