Sunrise Dust

Posted on July 1, 2024

Aha! Finally with the early morning shots from riding the other day… The sun is barely touching the hilltops. Sunrise makes for good dusty silhouettes. My favorite of the morning? Miss Lacee in the sunrise dust.

Eye Roll

Posted on June 30, 2024

After spending an hour and a half on cleaning up my iPad, transferring and deleting hundreds of photos, I came out to finish downloading the last photos from my camera. I then realized it was 10 pm and my camera was out in my car. <insert eye roll> Well, I’m too lazy to walk out…

Sweet Clover

Posted on June 29, 2024

Why, yes, the sweet clover is tall and abundant this rainy spring year…

Ending

Posted on June 28, 2024

Playing cowboy, once again. We moved the little bunch we branded the other day to the Slope Pasture. Unfortunately, my iPad is full of photos, and won’t download anymore until I clean up some space, so you’ll have to take the “beginning at daylight” on faith since it only downloaded photos beginning at the end…

Throwback Thursday: Pay Day, v.2.0

Posted on June 27, 2024

This was first posted June 29, 2014. Well, we loaded our steers on semis this morning and sent them on their way! Taking it slow and steady… no need to rush them, this is what we’ve been working for since they were born… the guys bring them to the corral.  Here we will run them…

Great Smiles

Posted on June 25, 2024

Even though we started early, it seemed like the temperature grew hot fast… of course, as I stand by the branding barrel most of the time… I may have a warped perspective! With only 100 calves to brand, it shouldn’t take too long. These are our youngest calves, those we deemed too young to be…

Pear Blossom

Posted on June 24, 2024

I have stayed up too late and we’re branding our last calves tomorrow, bright and early and, hopefully, in the semi-coolness… so I’m quitting early on you, if 11:30 pm is considered “early”. As usual, I did find a photo for you… This prickly pear cactus is in peak bloom and showing off!

Our Reminisces

Posted on June 23, 2024

I wish I’d been recording while these three reminisced their own stories the other day during our lunch break. It went kind of like this… I’ve added some input as well.

Quite Nicely

Posted on June 22, 2024

While the James Greet Reminiscing series comes to an end, cowboying in the present continues. On day two of the Badlands Gather, I was in charge of babysitting Reagan at home and bringing the chuckwagon when requested. Throughout the morning, I received updates from Megan (when she had service) of where they were and how…

Reminiscing XXX

Posted on June 21, 2024June 21, 2024

This story is from James Greet, written in 1991 about his life as a cowboy in the 1940’s. I could always tell what variety of wood was being burned by the odor of the smoke. In the towns, there was the odor of coal or coke being used. Coke was coal with the oil extracted from…

Throwback Thursday: Learning Adventure, v.2.0

Posted on June 20, 2024

This was first posted June 23, 2014. Before I left for the Garden Walk, I knew I needed to check on my bees.  Thursday was a cool morning… perfect! I was going to check my Golden Hive, as last time, Mesopotamia had the check up.  Slow and steady, I pried each bar from the other,…
