Family Craft

Posted on November 26, 2023November 26, 2023

I decided I’d do a family craft over Thanksgiving. I knew it would be a challenge, but I figured they could do it with some help. The kids would have to make many triangles… easy enough… and tie knots with thread… therein lay the challenge. My prediction was sooooo right. It MAY have been a…

No Googling

Posted on November 25, 2023

Well, I’ve just snored myself awake… so I’m taking the easy out and saying I’ll have to blog tomorrow. What we did today is much, too much, of a complex process that shaking myself awake to be accurate in my description will not work. I will say this. If you know what a stellated icosahedron…

Aftermath

Posted on November 24, 2023

I hope you had a great holiday. We certainly did! Then we met up again today, ate leftovers, and celebrated Reagan’s birthday a few days early. Happy birthday, Sunshine… I can’t remember if I shared this photo I took this summer or not… but it’s a pretty good capture of her!

Not the Prettiest

Posted on November 21, 2023

Sometimes there’s a whoopsie. Our heifers pushed up against this fence line last week. It’s old. It sits on the edge of a steep bank. The pressure of so many yearling heifers just was too much. The benefit to me was a pile of poles that will be sawn into firewood. Our choice for replacements…

Special Spot

Posted on November 20, 2023

Third time’s a charm. I’d been trying to make it to the mountain, a special place I should be visiting more… but there’s ranch work, and house work, and a dozen other excuses… but I’m determined to change that. If winter allows it, I hope to start making this more of a habit. Best of…

Looking Pretty

Posted on November 19, 2023

I didn’t go help very much, but the day brought the end of the big tire project. Installed in a new place, uphill a stone’s throw, and away from a gate… the huge tire had found its next home. It was plumbed in with new pipe, leveled, and surrounded by old concrete pieces to keep…

Lucky Man

Next on Vernon’s order of business is helping with the big tire water tank In Daniel’s corral. It had been leaking from the fittings underneath. When I arrived, Vernon was in his excavator. He reached out with the big mechanical arm and grabbed the huge tire and started to drag it to its new location….

Cowboy Candy

Posted on November 17, 2023

I forgot to include a class from the Wyoming Women in Ag conference that I thought you might appreciate. While I’ve done a fair bit of canning, I decided to attend the canning class. The other scheduled class was one geared to young producers, so I was prepared for a few women on the older…

#TBT: Dark Moons and Starlight, v.2.0

Posted on November 16, 2023

This was first published November 15, 2012. I wish I could photograph for you what I see at night, but pixels are poor imitators of the immenseness… the deep, soul-sucking blackness that backs the diamond brilliance of starlight unimpeded by city lights. The Milky Way that swags across the sky, a holiday decoration for year-round…
