Throwback Thursday: Shooting Star Gallery, v.2.0

Posted on June 13, 2025June 13, 2025

This was first published June 15, 2015. Mountain Pasture: While yellow flowers dominated the lower elevations, the top of the mountain was championed by shooting stars… first, lining the edges of buffalo trails, then in shy portrait… followed by eye popping vivid setting, and lastly, pink petals in black and white.

Notion

Posted on June 10, 2025June 10, 2025

Don’t ask me what I’m going to do with it. A pin? A necklace? A sun catcher in my window? I don’t have the foggiest notion…

Replenished

Posted on June 9, 2025June 9, 2025

Vernon is fixing fence on the mountain, and I have the very, very easy job of dropping him off at one point, and driving around to pick him up at another. With rainstorms coming weekly, the country remains brilliant green with water running down cow paths. The buffalo wallows are full, then slowly empty, only…

Posted on June 8, 2025June 8, 2025

Minor projects of the day… A fire pit partially completed… more rocks to haul. Two benches simply made… but needing planted in the ground since they tend to be tipsy. And lastly… a small and simple wood holder for my wood stove…

Accomplished

Posted on June 7, 2025June 7, 2025

Well, I did something today I haven’t done in a long time… I volunteered to help Daniel farm his new ground under his pivot. Now I’ve driven tractor to help feed but it’s been quite a while since I’ve actually pulled any equipment. After a detailed round of instruction from Daniel, I was on my…

Proof

Posted on June 6, 2025June 6, 2025

To continue from my story on Tuesday… I had met elk on the way in, (see Tuesday’s post), and I arrived at my Special Place. I unloaded my supplies and food, settling in with what I needed for my overnight stay. I kept looking out the windows, but no elk appeared in the distance. They…

Throwback Thursday: Unsung Heroes, v.2.0

Posted on June 5, 2025June 5, 2025

This was first posted June 5, 2015. Cowboys get all the attention…  Good looking, talented guys on horseback… the Quintessential Romantic Cowboy. But at brandings, there are some unsung heroes… the Vaccinators! Usually, but not always, they’re girls.  Not because girls can’t wrestle, Victoria and I have both put in our time holding calves, but…

Special Moment

Posted on June 3, 2025June 3, 2025

I stopped at the last place to receive a cell phone signal and texted everyone that I had arrived… No cell towers in sight. I was on my way to my special place… me and my dogs were spending the night. I turned the corner, traveling down a little two track, and spied two elk…

Water Line Project Video

Posted on June 1, 2025June 1, 2025

Seems like we’re always working on a water project… We finished the main line, which I’ve shown you before… but now we’re making a spur line to take water to the far reaches of the pasture. Getting water to various places means the cattle can utilize the grazing better. We’re all for that! Enjoy!
