Perfect Fit

Posted on January 30, 2014

On my Cheyenne trip last fall, we hit a few antique stores and flea markets.  I left with a few items, some old timey looking canisters, a turquoise blue pitcher, and this.

folding rockerThis was tucked away behind some other furniture and I knew instantly that I wanted it!  The price was $40, and it was comfortable!  It is low to the ground, but still easy enough to get out of!  It’s a little dusty and could stand a good vacuuming and maybe some oiling or something… but I think it has character.

and I’m all about character…

folding rockerAnd the best thing about this unique rocker?  It folds up and out of the way… which will be fantastic for my small studio.  A rocker in the sunshine?  Yes, please.  Slide it away for more floor space?  Yes, thank you!

Cool find! I’ve never seen one like that. Looks like the wood will
    clean up nicely!

Beautifullll chair. if it could talk.
I knew a gal in Oklahoma that was at an estate auction. She bought a armless rocker like yours, but did not fold. She ask about where it came from and the family said the Gr. Gr. Grandparents came from New Jersey with it and they made the Land Rush into Oklahoma with it on their wagon. Lived around Ponca City, Oklahoma. So when they had the sale, no one in the family wanted it. She ask again to make sure they knew what they were letting go. So she told them if they changed their mind to get in touch with her. Well, they never did. She really loved it and put some beeswax furniture polish on it and added some tacts to the leather seat. It rocked so smooth. She loved it and I am sure took very good care of it.At least like your chair it went to someone who will appreciate it. Congratulations!!
Icing here today in south central Kansas, may snow later.Ice not bad, yet. Take care Sharon Drake

It does rock perfectly… and I’m sure mine’s not that old, but it is great. What a wonderful story!

Thanks for letting me know! Just browsing around it looks like I got a fair price on it, too!

OH what a wonderful chair! I feel the same way with my gate-leg-table. It’s great for the Christmas tree and when Christmas is over – it is only about 1 ft wide.

What a wonderful little piece! I have never seen a folding rocking chair but now I am going to keep an eye out. A great addition to your studio.
