Snow again. A few more inches of the wet stuff, melted by this afternoon, but it held a cool breeze and temps in the 30˚s all day… so I didn’t venture out too far. Sometimes you have to do laundry and dishes, you know!
I did wander out to the studio… anxious to do SOMETHING creative.
I took one of my old topo maps… and decided to glue it down to my workbench.

Let me say that AGAIN! Ick! It looked horrid! Nasty! Disgusting! I can’t have a work surface like that! Holy toledo…
I spent the next HOUR scraping that all off!

Smaller this time.
I used ripped edges. Smooth edges. Burned edges.
I didn’t overlap too much, I don’t think I’m a fan of the uneven surface, and it doesn’t bother me that the wood shows around the maps. I liked this look, but I think I’ll go ahead and create maps that fit more like puzzle pieces, not exact, but too much overlay I think I’ll grow to dislike…
I’ll have my drafting table for a perfectly smooth surface, but this must be similar!
I still like this idea, but a little tweaking will have to be done!

Do you plan to put a thick coat of polyurethane or that clear thick coating you see at restaurants where shells are encased in a clear layer on the table tops (I don’t know what it is called)?
Sorry that you had to endure that headache, but I have to say, I like the multiple smaller maps look better! 🙂
Poly will yellow… the other stuff I’ve used before and would have to have an edge to hold it in, (we used it on our bar!), or I could just coat with Mod Podge! I have to order more, used what I had to glue the maps down, my other bottles were so old, they had hardened… so another project on delay while I purchase supplies!
