Everyone Say, “Awwwwww”

Posted on March 31, 2014

Snow again.  4″ of white stuff with an inch of slush underneath… yes, we’re back to ooee-gooeey mud!  Not that we had dried up from the last storm.  I had to drive into Ten Sleep this morning… again, 4 miles down the road, there was just a skiff.  We’re just special, I guess!

I had to go to town to pick up this.

chicksOK, everyone say, “Awwwwww…”

Red Stars, Buff Rocks, and Welsummers!  Plus the free exotic one, may be a Black Cochin, it has feathered feet!  I decided to get more, simply because my 9 are getting older, and they can’t quite keep all of us in eggs.  So much for my declaration of “always having more dogs than chickens”!  I don’t know that the old hens are headed for the stewpot, I won’t have to make that decision til these babies start laying!

chicksDally is very sweet and concerned… Lucas… well, Lucas I’ll have to watch!  It may not be the best of times for him since Dally is in heat and he’s, uhm… excited, already!

I know they’ll quickly outgrow this little tub I have them in, but if it’d QUIT SNOWING and warm up, I’d stick them out in the chicken tractor.  Well, they’ll get there someday, but for now, they’re inside, toasty warm, and happy!  You keep baby chicks at 90˚ for their first week, and we’re far from that!  Thank goodness for heat lamps.

Oh, I want. Do you think the neighbors would notice here in suburbia? Oh, they’re so cute. Plus, eggs!
