It seems a lot of us are suffering from the heat of late. It’s been hitting or approaching 100˚ here. My insulated water bottle has been getting used constantly… though that means its pretty metallic surface is getting scratched up.
Physical work takes place, if possible, in the early morning hours. I just laughed when I read that. It reminded me of the sunscreen commercial that says something along the lines of “avoid the sun from the hours of 10 am – 4 pm”. Ha. I should rephrase that to say *MY* physical work takes place in the early morning. The guys work regardless.
In fact, when I crawled in bed the other night at 11:30 pm, Vernon threw back his covers (he’d been asleep for a couple of hours) and stated, “Guess I’ll go bale some hay for a while.” It’s too hot and dry during the day, and the bit of moisture at night makes for a better bale. You don’t shatter the leaves off the alfalfa… so off he went. I headed to work myself at 7:30 am, without seeing him. I guess he quit about 9:30 am.
For a couple of hours. Then he went back out.
“WANTED: Person to work all hours of the day, seven days a week, with large animals and machinery. May not receive time off or vacation unless of bad weather. Must have encyclopedic knowledge of livestock, farming, fencing, nature, mechanical skills, and irrigation experience.”
How many people these days would apply for *that* job?

Beautifully framed photo!
Beautiful picture I love it!!!!
That is one stunning picture! Calendar material, please.
We are dying, and working, in triple digit weather. The LOWS are in the mid 70,s, which are doable, even though that’s around 2:00 a.m.
horrible. can’t imagine that hot. today was great, but we return to hot weather tomorrow… dry as tinder…
How many? just those with a passion for ranch life. Gee, if I had a horse like this one, I think I’d like to be on round-up duty!

Good to hear you are been as careful as possible in the heat. I find the US weather heat advisory interesting reading. Sadly not needed here with temps struggling to reach the low 70’s. Years ago when we had temps in the 90’s for several days, I was up at 5am washing and ironing while it was cooler. Take care out there.
