Well, this doesn’t really qualify… but I’m leading a book discussion on January 15. The book is First White Woman in the Big Horn Basin by Paul Frison.
Imagine being a lady’s maid in 1883, traveling to the Far Western Wilds of Wyoming, falling in love with a cowboy… marrying him, then living the rough and demanding life of a pioneer woman. A *REAL* pioneer woman… not like the one that lives on a wealthy established ranch in Oklahoma!
We’re going to talk about it, find some of her places on a modern map, discuss the development of this country, and delve into other matters found in the book. There are copies floating around the community, many people own this book; there are autographed copies at the Ten Sleep Museum for $100, and the Washakie Museum has issued a reprint which is available for $10-12.
While not technically a #tbt, it is an interesting historical book and fascinating look at what women had to endure to settle this land.
Please join me, January 15th, 6-7:30 pm, at the Ten Sleep Library.
Find me here!
I found and ordered the book from Amazon.com for a good price. I received it today and will be digging into it, because I also love reading about women pioneers.
I am interested in purchasing an autographed copy. How do I go about that ? Write to the Ten Sleep library ?
Write to the Ten Sleep Museum, they have a few copies on hand!
Jealous!!!!! I want to attend but I will be out of town.
I think it sounds fascinating. Wish I could be there. Sounds like you do relate somewhat.
I’m too far away from Ten Sleep, or I’d be there in a flash! I have always loved the history of pioneer women on the frontier, from the time I read Laura Ingalls Wilder as a child. Wish I could be there!
Now, I’m putting Washakie Museum on my list of places to visit in Wyoming, where I can pick up a reprint someday. That is a rare book indeed!
The Washakie Museum in Worland would probably mail you a copy, it’s a small book!
