So many of you liked my cradleboard I made, I thought I’d share my Indian dress I also made back in the day. It now hangs on the wall in my Indian room. A neighbor helped me with the design and beadwork. It is actually two pieces so I could wear the top with jeans if desired.
My sister also made a dress that she used as her wedding dress. This photo was taken at the World Atlatl Championship held at Fort Caspar in Casper, Wyoming.
Find me here!
Carol, that is a beautiful dress and you look beautiful in it. I am wondering if you have some Native American in your ancestry, and if so, what tribe? If you don’t mind me asking.
I am a registered member of the Choctaw tribe of Oklahoma but these dresses are more Plains Indian style.
Thank you. I’m sure you are very proud of your Choctaw ancestry. I have quite a few relatives in the N.E. corner of Oklahoma and have gathered that there is a strong presence of Native Americans in that area of Oklahoma but didn’t know what tribes were in that area primarily. Their history there would be very interesting, I’m sure. I should do some research on that.
Impressive craftsmanship and absolutely beautiful!
Thank you!
These dresses are very impressive, both in the design and the execution. It was so clever to have made a two piece dress because of the flexibility. I’m wondering how many hours went into the making of your gorgeous dress?
Oh, heavens… I don’t know. The beadwork is not really ambitious, and I used the lazy stitch, so it went fairly fast.
Oh wow, they are so gorgeous! I can’t fathom the number of hours represented there. Your talents are certainly numerous. Those are just so amazing!
Thanks!
Wow! They are both gorgeous works of design and beautiful detail. Thank you for sharing this wonderful picture.
