We’ve switched from “cowboy mode” to “farmer mode”. With the largest rainfall during the month of May that Johnny has recorded in his 55 years of recording weather, over 6″!, it was no surprise that field work was way behind schedule.
I’m usually anxious for it to start… not because I help… but because I found out when I moved to the ranch, that I’m allergic to grass pollen. Oh, I used to be horribly miserable… but living in the middle of hay fields for 37 years has helped with the intensity of my allergy attacks.
June is usually a bad month for me, though, it is running a bit behind schedule, too. I’ve always wanted to go to the mountain and just fix fence for the month, but there’s plenty of work to do down here.
Mowing my yard can be a trial, and since that’s what I did today, I’m sitting here with the full blown allergy symptoms, minus the crackling, “Rice Krispies” breathing that I get when I’m REALLY bad!
Anyway, enough of this “poor me”… Daniel did his magic and cut all this hay around my house.
I just stepped outside long enough to take this photo. Pollen was flying everywhere!
It was left to dry… then Vernon turned it so it would dry on the bottom… which is what he did to this field today. Daniel’s already moved onto the next field… see his tractor?
The bottom windrow is not yet turned, the upper ones have been. A few hours later, the hay was baled and loaded onto a trailer and hauled to the stackyard. I failed at photos of that, but I will have many more chances to take some if necessary!
I’ll patiently wait for this first cutting to be put up, even though the grass regrows and we do this again, it never seems to be as bad.
And for that, I’m very grateful!
Find me here!
Wow! is that ever a gorgeous picture of your flowers with the tractor so nicely framed by them and the barns and things!
I don’t think I’ve ever fought allergies as bad as this year. I was in South Carolina for a couple months and caught Spring there along with all the pollen, then came home to Idaho and all the evergreen pollen. I’ve felt prickly all over for months. I had to start washing off my face much more than usual, especially around my eyes. I even lost my voice in SC. Usually I love seeing Spring twice, if I can, but this time I wasn’t so sure with all the pollen.
Just going outside today was rough. The wind was blowing pollen around, I guess. I just have to suck it up and keep going! I wouldn’t like to do this twice like you did!
Being an allergy sufferer, too, u have my sympathy! If we bleed or were bruised, we’d get lots more sympathy. The beach offers relief, just have to dodge shore pine pollen.
For me it’d be the mountain, until the grass got tall up there!
Love seeing Wyoming looking green!
It’s amazingly green!
Your flowers are beautiful. We are cool. Maybe going to warm up and become summer. Was so missing your blog.
Thanks, Ginger!

And it’s getting HOT…
Carol, So glad you are back and amazing how green everything is!
It is always a relief to get the hay in…. Looks beautiful!
Thanks… it’s the first of many fields left to go!
