After bringing the heifers back home, the heat was increasing… and we left them in the corral to take it easy and not get doubly stressed. The next morning, bright and cool… we met again to draw their blood.
Why?
It’s now possible to pregnancy test after a month to see if all of our AI work was successful.
That meant running them through the chute, Brandon taking a small blood sample from under the tail, and me keeping the paperwork straight!
I had a good helper…
… even if she does eat cookies while on the job!
Johnny had help as well…
I do think Quinlan needs some rocks in his pocket to help pull the chute rope!
Work finally complete after another hot siege, we planned on shipping the heifers in the morning to the top of the mountain. They’ll love it… it HAS to be cooler up there!

Quinlin is learning the ropes!! (Sorry. Couldn’t resist!) And building muscles and being a valuable part of the operation.
It’s great to see so many generations working together and the young ones learning from the old hands.
Cookies are a food group! Love Gg’pa demo of patience and presence while Quinlan works the chute.
I love watching the younger generation become a part of the tradition! It is so wonderful to see, especially in this day and time! Thank you so much for sharing! These youngsters are so fortunate to have this life!
Lovely to see the GKs learning on the job. I’m all for a cookie while working. Keep up the good ‘paper’ work. Works for me. A screen is just a screen but paper……. texture and colour and lines. You can make it your own creation even if it is just numbers and dates. Keep cool. Low 70’s, partly cloudy skies in Middle England today.
Quinlin is learning from the best.
that’s the way kids should grow up, they are building memories that will last a lifetime! hey, I like cookies too!
