#TBT: Opening Water Holes Video

Posted on January 28, 2021January 28, 2021

For this week’s Throwback Thursday, I’m reposting a video much like the one I did just a few weeks ago, but this one is from 2012. If you’re looking at the country, or the activity, it’s still the same. We’re all older, though, all the dogs have died, and we’ve sold the blue pickup. In so many ways, things are timeless out here in the country, but then again, to add cliche upon cliche, time is very fleeting.

I’d breaking ice on a day like that, but I know their not all like that, at first I thought the cover in the center of the tank was to keep a cow or even maybe an elk from getting in the tank, but after watching a couple times, I’m thinking that cover protects the water inlet pipe, I’m not sure just how those tanks work, that’s so much different than our water tank, it was up by the barn & there was a tank heater we burned cobs in to keep the ice off, farming in Iowa was a lot different- but ice is ice & cattle get thirsty no mater where you are-

The cover keeps the cows from bumping the float that opens or closes the valve that fills the tank.

Everyone looks so much younger! The dogs and cows are patiently waiting. Looks like much more ice than this year.
    It’s fun to look back.
