Reno’s Curve

Posted on April 23, 2021April 23, 2021

Last time I saw wildlife on this big curve in the highway, it was three mountain lion kittens. This time it was three bull elk. For not the first time, I marvel at my commute home from the library… when I posted this same photo on Instagram, one of the hashtags I could have used was #mycommuteisbetterthanyours ! It absolutely made me laugh!

They quickly disappeared into the steep draw next to the road, and I pulled over and hopped out to take a photo.

Lit by sunshine, they paused on the hilltop, curious at what I was doing.

This spot on the highway seems unusual for a wildlife corridor, but that’s what is seems to be. I’ve seen many an animal right here… while most people might refer to it as the Big Curve on Greet Hill, for years I’ve thought of it as Reno’s Curve.

Way before I started blogging, way before I owned my first English Shepherd, Lucas… I had Reno, a little white speckled Aussie. She was backup to our dog, Custer. If you’re a history buff, you’ll get that connection. One night she followed me down the highway, and on my return trip, I found her here. Hit by a vehicle, laying just off the center line, waiting for me to return to lift her off the asphalt, shock on my face and tears streaming. She had never followed me down the highway before… and she would never follow me again. She’s one of the many dogs buried in the old orchard…

Every time I turn on that curve, and see such sights… I hope it’s a little present from Reno… a little beauty in a tiny package.

What a wonderful way to remember Reno and enjoy your amazing commute to work. The envy of many I think.

Now you’ve made me cry. Poor Reno.

On the photo of the sun lit elk, I only see two. Am I missing something. Spectacular!!!

And yes you could easily win a contest of who has the better commute.
