Another Ledger Art Traditions class today! The assignment today was to depict an idea and try to tell it so your audience could understand it.
My idea was “freedom” and I chose to show a horse breaking a halter and getting loose. This first one was supposed to be a loose sketch, just to get the idea in your head.
Next came a more detailed drawing on a ledger piece that was a vintage French letter. Since I was having a hard time getting the horse to look right in this pose, I did what traditional ledger artists did and didn’t use correct proportions. Instead, I began drawing in sharp angles, trying to reflect the tension and fear of the horse.
I didn’t like the tail, but the rest I was happy with!
Next we were to change it up… so I did! I used a different color I thought would stand out more… I got rid of the tail… and with a portrait layout, had more room for background details.
It was ok… but I think I like my first one with the wonky tail best!
Find me here!
What’s a horse without a tail? Really interesting class.
Like your idea for “freedom” very much. Like anything, our imagination and ability
to create are infinite. Looks like a terrific class.
Looks great! Great class! WOOHOO!
